🔑 Arrival Information

Getting In (Smart Lock)

Cabin 1 has a keyless smart lock, so you can check in any time after 4:00 PM without needing a physical key. Your personal access code will be sent ahead of arrival — please confirm you’ve received it before you travel.

If you’re ever locked out or your code isn’t working, please text or call us right away (see Contact Us above) and we’ll get you sorted with backup access.

Finding the Cabin

The cabin sits about 1 mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway. You’ll drive through the Spacious Skies Bear Den Campground — just follow the signs for “Mountain View Cabins 1 & 2.” As a guest of Cabin 1, you’re welcome to use the Spacious Skies community’s trails and amenities (13+ miles of hiking trails and a nearby lake for swimming/fishing).

Check-in Time & Early Check-in

Check-in is 4:00 PM. If you’re arriving earlier, check the Local Area guide below for things to do while you wait.

Complimentary early check-in is sometimes available if there’s no same-day turnover — just ask! Earlier arrivals may carry a fee; contact us ahead of time and we’ll let you know what’s possible.

🏡 About the Cabin

Bedroom Configuration
  • Primary bedroom — 1 King bed
  • Second bedroom — 1 Queen bed
  • Bunk bed — additional sleeping space (top bunk weight limit: 180 lbs or less)

2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 6. ~1,162 sq ft.

Hidden Kitchen Drawers

Our cabinets are built to maximize storage — there are hidden drawers built inside some of the larger kitchen drawers. If you’re hunting for a utensil or cooking tool and can’t find it, check inside the drawers for these extra hidden compartments.

Hot Water & Tankless Water Heater

The cabin has a tankless water heater, which means essentially endless hot water — but it can take a few minutes to warm up when you first turn it on.

If you’re not getting hot water: let it run for about 5 minutes, check that the valve handle is turned the right direction, and check the in-house temperature gauge (a previous guest may have turned it down).

Cold Weather & Pipes

In extreme cold, pipes (including the tankless water line) can freeze. If you notice just a slight drip or reduced flow, keep a faucet running at a slow drip and open the kitchen cabinet doors to help warm air circulate until it thaws. If you have no water at all, please let us know right away.

Outdoor Living
  • Outdoor hot tub with mountain views
  • Firepit
  • Deck/patio with scenic mountain views
  • Grill
  • Outdoor hot-water shower

Hot tub tip: for your safety and comfort, health guidelines recommend no more than 15–30 minutes in the hot tub at a time to avoid overheating.

Kitchen, Laundry & Living Room

Kitchen: Full kitchen with newer appliances — stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and ice maker.

Laundry: Washer/dryer available in the cabin.

Living Room: Indoor fireplace with a Smart TV. The interior and furniture have been newly renovated.

📶 WiFi / Internet

Cabin 1 Network

Network: Cabin1starlink
Password: MCSguest

Backup Router

The router/modem is located behind the TV. If the primary network isn’t working, the backup network name and password are printed on the modem itself.

Trouble connecting? Try setting “Configure IP” and “Configure DNS” to Automatic in your device’s WiFi settings.

💦 Waterfalls & Mountain Adventures

Explore the beauty of nature! This is our favorite part of the area — and yes, you can walk to one right from the cabin.
Walk to Bear Den Falls right from the cabin! No car needed for this one — it’s the easiest waterfall stop of your whole trip.
Linville Falls — 10 min north

Linville Falls is North Carolina’s iconic waterfall, just 10 minutes north of us on the right. While you’re there, don’t skip the little hidden gem Dugger’s Creek Falls in the back left corner of the parking lot. The Chamber of Commerce is located inside the Mineral Museum, which is FREE to visit and they’re very helpful with area information — stop in! Open every day except Christmas Day.

Crabtree Falls — 30 min south

About 30 minutes south of our cabin on the Parkway, with a 30-minute hike in to see it. Watch for signs, it’s on the right. Great hike! Great place to take pictures on the little bridge below it. It is a difficult hike compared to the rest.

Elk River Falls — ~1 hour

Google it — one of our favorites, very secluded, almost in the middle of nowhere near the TN border, but just a 2-minute walk from your car. Amazing. You can swim here but be careful. This is about 1 hour from us but worth it and beautiful!

Grassy Creek Falls — 15 min south (Little Switzerland)

15 minutes south in Little Switzerland, a 15-minute walk from your car. We have pictures of our daughters taking a shower under these falls in their bathing suits after a hike here. Rocks are very slippery and we do not recommend trying it, but you may see people standing behind or under this waterfall.

Tom’s Creek Falls — 20 min

Stop by the Mineral Museum on Hwy 226 — they have a map to this one and others. This one is massive, a very short 10-minute walk, about 20–30 minutes by car from us towards Marion. You can google directions to this one, it’s very easy to find and worth the 10-minute walk. About 100 feet tall! So worth it for such an easy walk to see a massive waterfall.

The Cascades — north via Hwy 421

If you’re coming to us via 421 out of Wilkesboro, take a short detour: rather than heading south to our cabin, head north for 2 miles and take a 30-minute easy walk to an amazing waterfall (about 30 minutes round trip). EB Jeffress Park is on the right. You’ll pass a 100+ year old log cabin on the right, then the parking lot is just after that. Well worth seeing either on your way to us or your way home — this waterfall is probably 200 feet tall.

Upper & Lower Creek Falls — ~30 min (Jonas Ridge Rd)

Off Jonas Ridge Road, very pretty. Our kids love the Tarzan swing and natural waterslide here! When you get to the parking lot, take the trail to the LEFT, about 15 minutes down, and at the bottom take a LEFT to the slide/Tarzan swing about 150′ up the creek from there. This is about 30 minutes from us. We have a video of our family doing this on the home page of our website and on YouTube — just amazing.

Harper Creek Falls — ~45 min

Another one we swim at. It’s about a 1-mile hike into the forest to see two massive falls. Google “Wilson Creek Visitor Center” for directions. We have a video on YouTube of this fall showing our daughters climbing up the falls with ropes — it’s massive, beautiful, and worth the 1-mile walk deep into Pisgah National Forest.

Roaring Fork Falls — ~25 min (near Burnsville)

An easy favorite near Burnsville, just off the Parkway on NC-80 toward the Busick Work Center. It’s a short, steady half-mile climb along an old service road to the falls — a great option if you want a big payoff without a long or difficult hike, and it’s close to Mount Mitchell if you want to combine the two.

Favorite Hiking Trails (No Waterfall Required!)

Mount Mitchell State Park — about 45 minutes away, this is the highest peak east of the Mississippi. From the parking area it’s a short, easy walk to the summit observation tower — simple enough for the whole family, with the payoff of incredible views on a clear day.

Roan Mountain — about an hour away on the NC/TN line, known for its grassy balds and rhododendron gardens (best in bloom mid-to-late June). The trails up top are easy, well-marked walks with some of the best views in the region.

Grandfather Mountain — about 45 minutes away, with everything from an easy nature trail near the entrance to the more strenuous Profile Trail for experienced hikers. The Mile High Swinging Bridge is worth the stop if you’re up there anyway.
